Evelyn Dancy Powell began her career as a Edgecombe County commissioner in 2008. Prior to taking that seat, she was appointed to the following boards by the commissioners, and continues to serve on these boards as a commissioner:

Alcohol Beverage Commission (ABC)

Evelyn has worked hand in hand with the Edgecombe County Board of Education to implement the demerger that will take place in the fall of 2024.

Edgecombe County received about $10 million in federal funds through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). Evelyn assisted in successfully implementing the plan to utilize those funds that provide benefits to citizens in need and meet critical needs of the county. Thanks to her assistance, Edgecombe County has balanced​ their budget and funded critical county operations without raising taxes for the last nine years.
Evelyn is currently the Executive Director of The Conetoe Family Life Center, also located in Edgecombe County. The Conetoe Family Life Center sponsors an apprenticeship program that provides scholarships to students in the county to attend two or more years of college. The program recruits 20 students per year from local high schools. They, along with East Carolina University, also sponsor a program entitled "Food is Medicine." This program gives the residents of Edgecombe County access to virtual medical attention and healthy foods for themselves and their families.

As she strives for re-election, Evelyn Dancy Powell is certainly committed to continuing serving the residents of her district and community.
